What organizations are eligible to receive donations and prizes?

Any nonprofit organization (other than a church, mosque or temple) in Washington County, MD, with a 501(c)(3) IRS determination letter that completes their registration fully with the Community Foundation of Washington County by the end of February 2015 is eligible to receive matching dollars and prize money. Please note that private non-operating foundations cannot receive donations throughwashingtoncountygives.org and are not eligible for awards.

What is Washington County Gives?

It is a 24-hour, web-based, social media driven fundraiser taking place Tuesday, May 5, 2015, sponsored by the Community Foundation of Washington County MD (CFWC) to help raise operating capital for local nonprofits.

Who can make a donation to washingtoncountygives.org?

Anyone can give. Donations made through the Washington County Gives website to registered nonprofit organizations are tax deductible and irrevocable. (Donations will not be refunded.) Contributions may be made via credit and debit cards only.

How do I make a donation?

On May 5th, go to www.washingtoncountygives.org and select the name and donation amount for the nonprofit you would like to give to. (You may contribute to more than one organization at a time.) Only donations made online with a credit or debit card on Tuesday, May 5th will be included as part of Washington County Gives.

Is my gift safe and secure?

Yes. The Washington County Gives website is powered by Kimbia, which provides a secure PCI-Level 1 compliant site for donations. Your personal information is protected when you donate through the Kimbia platform via washingtoncountygives.org or a Washington County Gives donation form on a registered nonprofit’s website.

Is there a minimum or maximum donation?

The minimum donation is $10. There is no maximum donation limit.

How much of my donation will go to the nonprofit?

Each participating organization will pay a 5.2% transaction/credit card processing fee. This fee will get subtracted from the nonprofit’s donation check. However, the nonprofit organizations will receive 100% of any matching funds or prize money obtained May 5.

Does the Community Foundation of Washington County get a portion of the proceeds from this day?

No. All of the funds generated on May 5 (minus transaction/credit card processing fees) go directly to the nonprofits. The CFWC sponsors Washington County Gives to promote philanthropy in the community and develop stronger relationships with local nonprofit organizations.

Who will receive my contact information?

The organization(s) you choose to support will receive your name and contact information, unless you choose to make an anonymous contribution. As host of Washington County Gives, CFWC will receive contact information for donors who participate in Washington County Gives and do not give anonymously. This information is used solely to thank the donor for participating, provide the option to opt-in to receiving future notifications from CFWC, and inform the donor of future Washington County Gives activities.

Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, all donations are final and cannot be refunded.

How am I recognized as a donor? You will receive an immediate thank you as well as your tax receipt from the Community Foundation of Washington County. You can choose to make an anonymous donation if you prefer. Anonymous donors will still receive a tax receipt, but will not receive a thank you from the nonprofit organization.

Can I give multiple times to help my favorite nonprofit win? Yes and no:Yes, each time you give, your nonprofit has a chance to win the Grand Award for Most Dollars Raised. If an hourly Golden Ticket drawing occurs, you may be able to help that nonprofit earn an extra prize. No, giving multiple times to your favorite nonprofit will not help them climb the Leaderboard to win the grand prize for most donations. The Leaderboard tracks each individual or unique donor who gives to that organization.

Washington County Historical Trust began supporting historic preservation in 1983 with its effort to save Wilson’s Bridge which was rebuilt the next year. Still advocating for our 4,000+ listed historic sites, WCHT is now gathering funds to finance a Western Maryland Field Office to provide Historic Preservation guidance for Western MD owners of historic structures. We’re about to publish our second book to support this effort.
