Adaptive Reuse of Historic Sturctures

Washington County, Maryland is blessed with a large amount of historic structures. That being said, every time we lose one to development or demolition by neglect – they cannot be replaced. It’s like the speed sign posted in a local neighborhood – “We have a many children – but none to spare. Please drive with care”

The greatest and highest use of a historic structure is that it has purpose – it has a job. The Washington County Historical Trust believes that historic structures should NEVER be a burden to taxpayers. Unquestionably, the best steward of a historic structure is a private owner.

Here are a few examples of Washington County historic structures that have been “repurposed” into productive reuse. Enjoy!
